Last Friday, I trekked down to Wall Street to check out “OFF CAMPUS” – an installation by Virgil Abloh, showcasing his most epic collaboration with Nike yet. The collab, appropriately titled “The Ten”, features ten of Nike’s most iconic sneakers deconstructed and remixed by the talented Off-White designer.
Upon walking in, the first thing I noticed was how massive the exhibit space was. I took a quick glance around the whole room and I remember feeling overstimulated, but in the best way possible. Each sneaker display was better than the next. Here’s a closer look at all ten styles:
Air Jordan 1: My favorite shoe from the collab. Fun fact: This shoe was originally designed to be entirely white, but Abloh decided against it at the last minute after he spotted someone at the airport wearing a pair of white Nike Dunks and realized that no one would be able to tell the difference between those and his collab. He changed his design to the original “Chicago” colorway, which I think was a brilliant move because having people mistake one of MJ’s most iconic silhouettes for a dunk would be straight blasphemy.
Nike Air Presto
Nike Air Max 90
Nike Air VaporMax
Nike Air Force 1
Nike React Hyperdunk (the only photo I took of this shoe/display 🙁 )
Nike Zoom Vaporfly
Converse Chuck Taylor
Nike Air Max 97
Upstairs was a pop-up “Nike Store” where you could buy exclusive merch:
I waited about an hour in line and I picked up the black hoodie, black “logo” tee and the tote. Was it worth the wait? Absofuckinglutely. In total, I spent almost four hours there, an afternoon well spent I must say. I left feeling completely and utterly inspired.
